PART 2

New Signature Farms logo! I've only seen it on the mushroom packaging so far. Same tag treatment as we saw with Signature Select.

Hmmmm... not sure why "Quality Guaranteed" is not located on the tag like it is with on other updated Signature brand packaging. The old logo can be seen below...

Here we have Signature Kitchens and Signature Select preserves. Curious to see how a situation like this will play out. Signature Kitchens appears to be dead in favor of "Select". Will these two varieties of preserves gets paired down to one?

PRIORITY TOTAL PET CARE OUT
SIGNATURE SELECT PET CARE IN

Fromt the minute Safeway's rebranded products started showing up on Acme's shelves, I thought the Priority pet food packaging had the absolute best design. That said, I couldn't help but wonder how much Blue's pet food packaging inspired Safeway's design...

Acme just began carrying Blue pet food in the last few weeks with announcements in the weekly circular and Big Book along with displays in stores. Did Blue's recent arrival on Acme shelves prompt a redesign of the Priority line? Hard to know for sure but it does seem like the timing of the redesign was more than just a coincidence. Acme has been brining a lot of new items in the past few months. Possibly a response to endless complaints online about the poor product selection at the converted stores. The two Acmes I shop at regularly are now bringing back numerous products that were dumped when the stores were reset.

OPEN NATURE ARRIVES
IN THE PET AISLE!

Added to baby products and now to pet food. The updated logo has yet to appear on grocery items as far as I can tell.

WALL OF SIGNATURE COOKIES!

This massive display was at the Edgewater store this past weekend. Looked even bigger in person. The displays continued around the corner on the left side. If shoppers didn't know Signature Select was Acme's brand, they probably do now.

Today we return to Newark, Delaware to visit the former Pathmark in College Square. The photos in this post are a mix from two contributors. The embedded flickr photos are courtesy of catnapped while the rest are courtesy of Jacob V. I'll be relying on contributors to finish up coverage of both Delaware and Newark stores. And thanks to these contributors, I have photos of all the remaining stores in each state and will be getting them up on the blog in the coming weeks.

Food to Go is Fresh to Go in the College Square store. I'll tell ya what's not fresh... that pink floor.

New lighting has recently been installed above Produce.

The hanging light tubes survived the Quality Built décor swap but have since been removed. Acme does not care for any hanging lights these days. They yank them out every chance they get. I kinda like them.

Pathmark's late 90's décor, which was still being put into stores in the early 2000's, in the "before" photo. As you know, in the 90's everybody HAD to have checkerboards on the walls. A pretty dreadful décor package with its many shades of Pepto-Bismol.

Sorry but these lights are still cool. The floor, however, has got to go!

Wonder why Pathmark didn't remodel their Delaware stores in decades. They must have been successful to survive to the very end yet this store was passed over for the chain's last 3 remodels.

I find it strange that Acme put these signs in non-food departments.

I'll tell you what I miss about Pathmark... the selection of general merchandise. Acme has wiped it all out. These two photos show how extensive Pathmark's stationary department was. Years ago Pathmark partnered with Staples to run their stationary sections. I don't remember it lasting terribly long but Pathmark continued keep a stellar selection despite the two companies parting ways.

 SNACK ARTIST OVER AND OUT!

Last week, MikeRa left word under the Part 2 post that the Snack Artist brand was being converted to Signature Select and sure enough... it is. At first I thought the snacks would be co-branded, similar to the refreshe water you'll see down below. That turned out to not be the case. The Snack Artist is officially dead.

REFRESHE BRAND SURVIVES!

The refreshe logo has been updated with less drops and the Signature Select tags are being added to the packaging. Seen only on these cases of water so far. I haven't been able to find any soft drinks with with these updates.

The very last ACME branded item in the store is on its way out. Seeing the logo on these water cases hasn't even been a safe bet for months now. Soon it will be gone for good. The only other hold out I am aware was the garlic bread in the bakery but that has recently been changed over to Signature Select. Will ANYTHING ever say ACME on it again??? Jewel wised up and added their name back on staples like milk and bread but there is no signs Acme will be following suit anytime soon.

News Break:
ALBERSTONS ACQUIRES
RITE AID

For a comprehensive article chock full of all the details
jump over to ChainStoreAge.com

Additional details from CNN.com which fills in some blanks remaining from the article on ChainStoreAge.com:

Walgreens wanted to buy up all of Rite Aid in 2015, but federal regulators nixed that agreement on antitrust grounds. In September, the two companies announced a scaled back version for nearly 2,000 of Rite Aid's stores. That left Rite Aid with around 2,600 stores.

Albertsons has 2,220 grocery stores, including Vons, Shaw's and Acme. Its pharmacies will be rebranded as Rite Aid and some Rite Aids will continue to operate as stand-alone stores. Rite Aid CEO John Standley will become CEO of the new combined company while Miller will become chairman.

New Checkouts in Edgewater!

Location: 481 River Rd, Edgewater, NJ

Not the most exciting news in the world but this is MY Acme so I'm pretty excited about it. Confused as to why the checkouts weren't replaced when Quality Built went up on the walls last June. Better late than never I suppose. Hoping the floors are getting replaced next, at least around the permitter and in Produce. I still find it surprising this store did not get a floor to ceiling remodel like we've seen at some other locations. Business here still seems to be on the rise, which cannot be said for a lot of Acmes out there. I've been a regular shopper here for nearly 20 years and there are days that the Acme is far busier than the Pathmark ever was.

Acme checkouts are among the nicest in the grocery store industry.

As much as I love the new registers, I absolutely HATE to see the end of Pathmark's unique "bag your own" checkouts. I prefer to bag my own groceries so I often get in line at one of these registers. Even if the line is longer than other, it moves much faster since the cashier doesn't have to do the bagging.

It was hard getting a good picture here without being too obvious. The registers have two belts for bringing groceries back to the bagging area. The cashier sends the first customer's items down the one belt and then flips a divider to send the next customer's items down the other belt. It's genius. I've only ever seen these checkouts in Pathmarks.

Acme – Jefferson, New Jersey

Location: 5734 Berkshire Valley Road, Oak Ridge, NJ
Opened as Acme on November 1, 2015

Yep, the facade gets us off to a bad start. Once again, Acme couldn't spring for enough paint to make the name change look less obvious. It's been a problem at other locations as well. The interior hasn't gotten much love either but that's not to say this isn't a very nice store. And a very busy store as well!

BEFORE >>>

A&P built this store around 2002 as a replacement to a smaller store that was located in the shopping center next door. We'll have a closer look at the history to the two stores down below.

Updated Pharmacy signage.

The exterior is in great shape and makes the store look like it was built far more recently than it was.

First round of A&P's fresh remodel which probably went in just a few years after the store opened. Not sure of the original décor package but I would guess it was similar to the one seen at the abandoned Bristol Superfresh. A&P was using that décor package in remodels in the very early 2000's. An interesting look for sure particularly the font choice which would make more sense in a  house of horrors.

This place is begging for a Starbucks! There aren't any in the area and there is plenty of room to add one.

Calandra's bread! An A&P staple which Acme ditched allwhile hanging up their "We Love Local" sign.  Tons of complaints on yelp about Acme ditching the local bakery's bread. Looks like they're bringing it back! At least at this location. I haven't seen Calandra's bread return to the stores I shop in.

As usual, you'll be seeing mostly shopper-free photos but this was one of the busiest converted stores I've been in yet!

Groceries in the first aisles with Health and Beauty in aisle two...

Only a handful of aisles have lighting directly above the shelving.

Immaculately clean and bright throughout! I wasn't picturing this store being so well run. It's kinda out in the middle of nowhere. But then again, it's a situation Acme thrives in.... decent amount of population in the area without enough for another competitor willing to set up shop. The Jefferson Acme will be impacted by the 80,000 square foot ShopRite being built in Sparta. But then again, that store is being built in the middle of nowhere as well and it will be a 25 minute drive from Jefferson. For more details on the new Sparta ShopRite, please click here.

Ice cream cases along the front.

There are some odd aisle configurations here. Not sure why Acme is insisting on eliminating shelf space as much as they are in these converted stores. Reviews on yelp often complain about the reduced selection in these stores. Nothing but wasted space in this aisle.

The only upgrade here from the A&P days are new checkouts. A&P's old checkout lights remain.

7 checkouts open with lines at each.

Acme – University Plaza, Newark, Delaware

Location:1 University Drive, Newark, Delaware

Just when I think I've seen it all, along comes the University Plaza Acme in Delaware. I believe this is a one-of-a-kind location. Originally built sometime in the late 70's/early 80's as a classic 33M store.  It was then expanded in the late 80's and given an entirely new facade which I thought had only ever been used for newly built stores.

Things get even weirder on the inside. First off, there are remnants from no less than five décor packages. Stranger yet... the store maintained its classic 33M layout after being expanded in the 80's. I don't know of any other location that could be said for.  Not sure how things played out here but my guess is the store was expanded and remodeled before new store construction really took off in the late 80's. Acme must not have fully committed to the new layout that was being used in new stores like Dover and Hockessin and decided to stick with their tried-and-true layout here. Kinda messes with my mind looking around this place because I know of no other Acme like it.

We'll be enjoying photos provided by Jacob V along with additional embedded photos from catnapped retail central.

The checkerboard floors from the 80's remodel remain in place. Some mixing of the colors which we have also seen in Cape May.

Customer Service in the front corner! Virtually in the same spot it would have been in before the late 80's expansion and remodel. Not sure why there's a black strip of tiles along the floor.

We've got some aisle Premium Fresh and Healthy aisle markers... at this side of the store. Hold tight for a mismatched batch on the other side. Odd line up of displays running along the first aisle and there's that black stipe of tile again.

The Deli and Seafood are swapped compared to the standard 33M layout. Notice the keystones left over from the 90's Red/White/Blue remodel above the Seafood sign.

The layout gets a little wonky here. A strange alcove in the Meat Department due to the expansion. Aisle 11 looks to be the start of the newer section of the store which extends further back than the original section.

Aisle markers left over from the Alberstons Marketplace remodel. Premium Fresh and Healthy category markers along the top shelves.

Yet another strange twist... the Dairy has the Bakery flooring throughout rather than the light blue tiles used in all other 80's remodels.

Fresh Bakery in the front corner! Once the standard placement for the department but completely done away with once the 33M layout was retired in the mid 80's.

Qualty Built checkout lights! Just to add one more element from yet another décor package. I believe this store is officially the most hodge podged store ever seen on the blog.

I've seen comments on various sites claiming the Snyder Plaza Acme is performing well below expectations. I wouldn't normally pass on such claims but I have been wondering about the store myself and can't find any information to the contrary. Every picture I've seen of the interior shows a beautiful store completely void of any shoppers. Just curios to hear from anyone in the area who may have been to the store. Is ShopRite's replacement store in Whitman Plaza too much for the brand-new shiny Acme to take on?

P.S.: Does anyone know the store number for this location? I would like to add it to the blog's running store list. My previous source of store numbers is no longer available.

Former Acme – Bath, New York

Courtesy of John from WISL1480.com

Location: 380 West Washington Street, Bath, NY

I came across the former Bath, New York Acme way back in 2009. It was among the very first former stores I really wanted to visit. The perfectly preserved exterior had me imagining the interior would be virtually untouched as well. Add to that, a former pitched-roof store is located just a couple doors away! All these years later, pictures of the store arrived in the Acme Style inbox thanks to John who has brought us tons of Acme treasures over the years. Turns out the interior is as awesome as I was hoping it would be!

A classic 33M store here, although the actual square footage is certainly less. I would guess it is more in the 25,000 to 28,000 range. Most likely an earlier model as the interior doesn't have many of the design features that became standard in the 33M models.

Delivery door/emergency exit in the Bakery department.

Pretty sure there was a speaker for outdoor paging of employees or a fire alarm. Not sure at all.

Classic entrance and exit with the brown and beige panels in between. The weekly circulars would have been posted in the center panel.

Acme's flooring is still intact! We're getting a glimpse of the classic Produce floor here with many more views to come.

Magic carpets still in place inside the vestibule but have been removed from the outside.

Wow! You can change the name on the front of the store but it's always going to be an Acme!

Pretty great shape all these decades later.

The Produce aisle was pretty narrow here. Notice the ceiling height is consistent throughout the store. In the official 33M stores, the ceiling in Produce and the Bakery were lower, often with curved corners.

Heading back to the Corner Deli spot. Notice the gray strip on the Produce floor. Most likely a scar from cases being removed.

I suspect a new rear wall was constructed here. Probably bumped further up from the original location to hide all the scaring on the floor from the various cases that ran along the back.

Looking from the former Dairy side over to Produce.

Heading to the Bakery Department in the front corner.

No sign of an in-store bakery here. The floor in this area would not have survived so nicely especially in the far corner had there been one. Acme was pretty late to the in-store bakery game. They were generating such high profits from their centralized bakery, there wasn't much point in having each store bake their own. Of course they had a change of heart by the time the 80's remodels were rolled out.

Along the side and back of the store...

AERIAL VIEWS

By today's supermarket standards, the newer store is extremely small, yet from this vantage point appears huge compared to the original store. Looks about 3 times the size! I would say the pitched-roof store here was one of the smallest models Acme used probably topping out at 6 aisles.

The pitched-roof now totally disguised.

Abandoned Stop & Shop – Butler, New Jersey

Bonus Store:

Location: 1506 State Route 23, Butler, NJ

The Butler Stop & Shop has sat abandoned since the store relocated to the former Kinnelon Pathmark in October 2015. The replacement store is just across Route 23. I hoped to visit this place when it was still open but never made it. Wound up passing it on my way to the Jefferson Acme and had to stop for a closer look. I do love an abandoned supermarket!

Grand Union/ Stop & Shop - Butler, NJ
Grand Union opened here back in 1971 with Stop & Shop taking over the space in 2001 when GU went out of business. I'll never forget the day I watched the GU employees walking out of the corporate offices for the last time. It was all over the news. One of the saddest days in the history of supermarkets. I actually thought Stop & Shop would keep some of Grand Union's products and services but no, they got rid of absolutely everything that made Grand Union great.

Stop & Shop dressed up the facade with some dormers and a gate along the top after Grand Union shut down. A similar treatment was done to the the Stop & Shop in Sayville, You can have a look by clicking here

As small as this store was, it apparently drew some big crowds. We'll see some evidence of that in the satellite views.

LOOK INSIDE >>>

The place is cleared out with not much of anything left on the walls. The only design element left behind is the floor which I believe is from Grand Union's early 90's remodels. Back then, they kept a very similar look to their 80's remodeled stores but swapped out the red and white color scheme for green and yellow.

Stop & Shop added these offices along with their clock.

The Stop & Shop logo can still be seen but it did not show up in this photo with the sun glare. I resorted to doing some tricks in Photoshop to get make it visible...

Still a great looking store!

Acme – Old Bridge, New Jersey

$

0

Location: 3500 Route 9, Old Bridge, NJ

Acme took over the Old Bridge A&P fresh on November 8, 2915. As it is with many of the converted stores, virtually nothing has been done here to upgrade the shopping experience from the A&P days. The store seems to do a decent business which had me wondering why Acme hasn't invested in some much needed improvements.

The exterior is rather unique to A&P. The Kenilworth store is the only other store that I know of with a similar exterior. A&P never embraced entrances and exits on both sides of the their stores. The Old Bridge store actually looks more like a 90's Acme than it ever did an A&P.

A bit of fresh paint on the outside but it could use more. Looks like the green paint has been running down over the gray boarder. My impression of the outside of the store wasn't helped by the wet nasty weather.

A quick google of the situation suggest Old Bridge is the only Acme/Santander combo out there.

Very cool entry ways on both sides of the store!

I don't believe the green floor is original to the store, although it certainly looks that old. Not sure what era the flooring is from.

Customer Service is missing the letter V. Overall this store is pretty nice but when you start to look closer you can see a lot of rough spots throughout.

Acme added their express counter just across from Customer Service. THREE registers open just in the express lane? Pretty remarkable for an Acme. Of course when I was ready to checkout there was only one open.

The more former A&P fresh stores I visit, the more I realize the fresh remodels were often just a décor swap. The few A&Ps I frequented over the years were lucky to have had major remodels during the fresh era but it seems like they were the exceptions.

The Deli wasn't lucky enough to get any signage or perhaps it was removed at some point. There is a tiny Dietz and Watson sign over to the right.

Old school A&P salad bar!

Found it very odd that there was no signage back in this corner. Nothing to draw shoppers to one of the most profitable areas of the store.

Things start really going downhill in the grocery aisles. The floors are a mess! It didn't look like new shelving was put in for the big reset like it was in most other stores.

TWO double wide aisles in Old Bridge. The first is the water and soft drink aisle.

And the other double wide. Seasonal at the front half with paper products in the back half.

Have to say the staff here seemed really great. I was pleasantly greeted and asked if I needed help both in the Deli and the Bakery.

A&P registers remain in place. Acme has replaced these older models in most stores I've been in. I was surprised to still see them here. For some reason the gray bumpers were removed from all sides of each restore making them look even more like a mess. The store did get the Quality Built lights.

You can see where the bumper strips were attached in the photo above. Holes remain in their place. The customer side of the registers were even more of a mess with the bumpers being removed.

Starbucks was recently remodeled and apparently downsized. Not sure if this happened before or after Acme took over.

No Acme sign on the wall over 2 years later.

Starbucks old flooring remains in this area. Acme has filled this alcove with discount racks, a common feature at most stores since Acme cannot seem to get a handle on its product mix. I've been noticing in my local Acmes that we're in for a whole new round of clearance. The tags are popping up all over the store. Ice cream and frozen foods are getting hit particularly hard.

A FORMER ACME
JUST MINUTES AWAY!

Location: 2500 Route 9, Old Bridge, NJ
Opened: June 27, 1962

This former pitched-roof model is one mile north of the current Acme.

The pitched-roof disguised by that careful placed panel.

You can see a bit of Acme's roof from this vantage point. Best shot I could get.

A little further up Route 9...

Location: Fairway Plaza, Route. 9, Old Bridge, NJ

Had to check this ancient place out. After stepping inside, I couldn't believe something so awful could still have the ShopRite name plastered to the outside. Apparently a new 90,000 square foot ShopRite was planned to be built at Schulmeister Road but as far as I can tell, the project is dead.

And the award for the world's ugliest décor goes to... this store! Half the neon lights in the place don't even work. The department signage could not be more mismatched with the tiled walls and floors.

Tiny in-store Bakery tucked away in this corner.

ShopRite expanded into neighboring stores with the least amount effort spent to make the new space cohesive with the existing store.

When I first walked in, I thought the place was going out of business. The first end cap I came to was completely empty of product, on a Saturday morning! Cases in Produce, which appeared to be working fine, were also completely empty. Even if a replacement store has been in the works for a few years, why hasn't this place been fixed up in decades?

Took a double take at the crazy color scheme of the registers.

Wait, there's more...

Location: 1043 Route 9, Old Bridge, NJ

The abandoned Old Bridge Fathmark is about 3 miles North of the ShopRite. This store was among 25 that closed immediately following A&P declaring bankruptcy in July 2015. The store was also the scene of a tragic shooting back in 2012. You can google the details but I'll leave you with this link to nj.com which has a story of the store's reopening and includes a photo of the memorial plaques hung inside for the victims.

Department signage was removed from the wall and was left leaning up against the produce cases.

Doubtful another supermarket will ever move into this space. BJ's is just up the road with Walmart across the street.

An aerial view of the former Pathmark and the surrounding competition. Interestingly, the Home Depot was able to drive Lowe's out of business leaving that massive store abandoned just south of Walmart.

With Old Bridge coverage complete, we have just 4 more New Jersey stores to go! Two South Jersey stores and two shore store all coming soon to Acme Style!

The Acmes of Middletown Delaware

Location: 460 E Main St, Middletown, DE

The Middletown Acme opened in 2003 as part of a boom of newly constructed stores under the first round of Alberstsons' leadership. The new store replaced a tiny, decades old Acme in town. The Middletown store is one of only four Acmes to have been built with the Theme Park interior, also know by its official name... Grocery Palace. All of that tricked out décor has recently been sent to the dump. The store received a relatively extensive Quality Built remodel with the store layout and décor being dramatically simplified. It's interesting to see how much work Acme put into this store to make it... boring. I'll let you be the judge but I think I prefer the store before the remodel. For all the work that was done, the Theme Park floor was left unchanged aside from patching areas which were scarred from departments being relocated.

A couple supplemental exterior views from google maps which explains the odd perspectives.

The Deli is just to the left of the entrance with Produce to the rear. Huge changes were made in the front of the store where a large Floral Department and Pharmacy were freestanding departments on the sales floor.

Floral was significantly downsized and moved to this area. "Before" photos are included below following our tour of the remodeled store.

Not sure if new blue tile has been put up in the Deli or if the old tile was painted over the previous tile like it was in Willingboro.

Middletown got the stunningly beautiful Bakery display cases! The lighting, the signage, the wood veneer... there are times when Acme knocks it straight out of the park and this is one of them. This area of the Bakery was completely overhauled. Hardwood flooring from the former Wild Harvest aisle extended into the Bakery has been replaced. You can see white tile now extending out from the Charmin display.

Checkerboard flooring in aisle 6 is left over from Health and Beauty which has been moved to a new location.

I've supplemented Jacob's photos with some photos from catnapped on flickr. Between the two of them, we're getting some fanatic tours of the Delaware stores!

You can see the wood paneling remains from the original Meat and Seafood department, simply painted over now. Again, either new tile on the back walls here or it's been painted over.

No more barn above the milk!

The Dairy floor looks like something out of an Atari 2600 game!

Health and Beauty was relocated to the front corner from the grocery aisles. This area used to be, oddly enough, the Shop The World department.

Guess the state and incorporate date are officially back! Well, for the Delaware stores anyway.

The Pharmacy was moved from it's freestanding location just inside the entrance over to the previous home of Customer Service.

Have to ask... why its't "PHARMACY" centered?

Self-checkouts survived!

Signage here probably wasn't updated since the wall would be a mess once the original words were removed.

TURNING BACK TIME >>>

Now were jumping back a few years to see the store prior to the Quality Built remodel. These photos are a mix from 2011 and 2015. Some were sent in by Will from flickr. Some others are from an unknown source. I filed them away a long time ago and lost track of who sent them in.

You can see above the Deli the amount of décor that had to be removed from the walls to transition to the simple Quality Built painted walls.

Honestly, I like the Produce Department much better in the "before" photos!

Flooring here was swapped out for plain white tiles.

The Bakery was stripped bare of all its previous décor elements for the remodel...

Repeating this photo just show the significant changes made to this area.

The beverage and snack aisles weren't as tricked out here as they were in Milltown.

I'll miss the barn most of all!

It does make a lot more sense to have Health & Beauty in this corner with Shop the World moved to the grocery aisles.

The Pharmacy is now in the former Customer Service alcove.

You can see the freestanding Floral and Pharmacy Departments in these photos.

Giant is just down the road. I believe Acme was first to arrive in this part of town with Giant following shortly after. Both stores were built between 2002 and 2006.

For a tour of the interior of the Middleton Giant, check out Will's pictures here.

Last Friday's post has arrived!

The Middletown Acme has arrived! Lots of exciting things to see here. When current pictures were sent in of the store, I thought I was in for a quick post. Wow, was I wrong. I just kept finding more pictures to share which is what caused the post to get delayed until today. Pretty sure it'll be worth the wait!

Acme – Manahawkin, New Jersey

First round of photos courtesy of Dan Asnis

Location: 609 E Bay Avenue, Manahawkin, NJ

Despite all odds, the outdated Manahawkin Super Fresh survived to the bitter end. Competition in the area is overwhelming for this place... ShopRite, Walmart, Target, Costco and BJ's are all just minutes away. But not easy minutes away during the summer months which is this place's saving grace. Regardless, A&P seemed to give up on the store many years ago. The interior had no department signage on the walls and absolutely no décor to speak of and. Acme is now in the process of giving this store some much needed attention.

The first Super Fresh logo is still the best!

OPENED AS ACME ON
NOVEMBER 15, 2015 >>>

Acme loves a store at the Jersey Shore store so they were sure to snap up this place! Nearly 2 1/2 years later, they have launched a much needed remodel, the scale of which is still difficult to pinpoint. The interior changes are occurring while renovations are happening to the entire exterior shopping center.

I love how big these letters look on this relatively small facade!

A&P didn't even give this place the laziest of all updates like it did with their Ocean City store. A&P's lighting remains in place in Produce.

Plain, plain, plain. For all the stores they closed over the years, you'd think they could have rustled up some department signs to put in this store. A&P did add the "Fresh Obsessed" era aisle markers.

This aisle is like a time warp. I feel like if I stare at this photo long enough, I'll go into a trance!

Bakery and Deli up in the front corner with Customer Service to the left...

This store had a similar layout to the Marlton Super Fresh which you can explore through the years by clicking here.

Big changes coming to this long neglected store!

A newer entrance at this side of the store. We'll exit through a much older version later on.

As of last weekend, the most obvious changes inside are the Quality Built colors going up on the walls. Some work has been done to the backroom area as well. As of now the remodel appears to be minor but it's too early to know for sure. The floors are in desperate need of replacing.

Acme has repainted the cases black throughout the store. This was done during their initial conversions at most acquired locations.

Not sure what's happened to the aisle here on the left but it looks like shelving has been removed or moved.

New stuff here! I have no idea what it is despite zooming in for a closer look.

Work is even being done behind the scenes.

Huge improvements here with nothing more than some fresh paint.

I love the DIY cabinets along the Deli's back wall.

No doubt these registers will be replaced.

Come on Acme... this store needs a new floor!

Older doors with magic carpets on the Customer Service side.

Doug snapped this picture of the shopping center across the street which is the original home of ShopRite and Kmart, both of which relocated to Route 72.

The store first appears in the historic views in 1986. Check out those crowds!

A look at the nearby competition and the stores proximity to LBI. Pathmark was also in the mix on Route 72 but is abandoned. You can check it out by clicking here.

Thanks to Doug for getting us photos of the Manahwkin Acme with the renovations underway!
