Cerberus to buy Safeway!
Cerberus has offered $9.4 billion dollars for the country's second largest grocery store chain. If the deal goes through, Safeway and Alberstons will merge to become one company which will run approximately 2,400 stores under 17 different banners. There is still time for Safeway to consider other offers. Kroger has been rumored to be interested in Safeway as well. They recently beat out Cerberus for the Harris-Teeter chain.
